Deb​bie Ayres began riding at the age of 5 and has owned horses for the last 40 years. Since 1999 Debbie has: trained horses, instructed riders and consulted for horse owners. She is a member of the American Quarter Horse Association, Equine Trail Sports as well as Extreme Cowboy Association. She volunteers both time and lessons to Freedom Horses - an organization dedicated to su​rvivors of violent crime.
Debbie and her champion mare, Smokie, were the Open Division Champions for the State of Texas in the American Competitive Trail Horse Association's 2012/2013 season. This was the season after they were Reserve Champions for the State of Texas and ranked 3rd in the nation. Smokie went on to earn her place in the ACTHA Hall of Fame before her untimely passing in 2016.
